Samantha Kristine

My art, as a collection, draws inspiration from the social landscape and sisterhood of today’s society. From growing up around strong and resilient women to befriending the bold individuals in my life today, I have always found inspiration from the company I keep. And as I learn about those I encounter, I also learn about myself.

As a feminist artist and through a variety of mediums I challenge my audience to look past the surface and to acknowledge things much deeper. To show interest beyond what you see at the surface level; in life, relationships, and within oneself. As an artist I find it my responsibility to give you something more; to lead you into a moment of release and expression.

From the perspective of my female experience, I have found that our beautifully messy lives, all the good and the bad, our passion, intense expression and our command for attention runs parallel to the art I make. The many years of pain that women have endured empower me and are translated into the multiple layers of repeated colors and brush marks. The vibrant people in my life are the colors that I use. Every line is intentional and purposeful like even the most ordinary of our days. The process and livelihood of my pieces are like the lives we live; slowly progressive, but intense and radiant.

From my abstracts to my observational pieces of the social landscape, my art exists as a collection of stories from the people around me. As social issues continue, such as the belittlement of women and the misrepresentation of our equality, the dehumanization or over-sexualization of the human form, the normalization of rape culture, body shaming, racism, and societal depression; I fall deeper into my artistic expression, and continue to shine a light on the experiences of the culture I’m immersed in.

I am Samantha Kristine and I make art for the voices that once empowered me, and for those who need empowerment.
